MOFA

“Approved for Public Release by AMSTA-AR Form 3002 dated
01 July 96 .”

KDI Precision Products, Inc. is recognized worldwide as a technology leader in the  development of highly sophisticated systems for Radio Frequency (RF) proximity and sensing applications. Whether it is today’s most advanced FM proximity system or a simple continuous wave (CW) system, KDI has the knowledge, expertise, and facilities to design, develop, manufacture, and test a high-reliability, low cost solution to meet customer needs.

The M782 Multi-Option Fuze Artillery (MOFA) was developed by the U.S. Army ARDEC. KDI is currently under contract to fabricate 210,500 initial production fuzes. The first lot of fuzes was successfully qualified and delivered in early 2003.

The MOFA is a multi-mode fuze having Proximity, Time, PD, and Delay functions. The Proximity Height of Burst (HOB) is 7 to 9 meters. The time is 0.5 to 199.9 seconds in 0.1 second increments, and the delay is a  nominal 7 milliseconds. This fuze is utilized in all 105MM and 155MM conventional bulk-filled HE ammunition. It has excellent immunity to ECM because like the M734A1 Multi- Option Fuze for Mortar fabricated by KDI, it uses a DDR MMIC  FM/CM proximity technology.

KDI’s engineering group has fully demonstrated its ability to combine unique cutting-edge sensor technology with modern electronic components to provide a fully integrated munition device. Production of the MMIC proximity module, in our modern high quality manufacturing facility for the M734A1, has yielded excellent field results. The MOFA Fuze electronics employ microprocessorbased logic together with state-of-the-art Gallium Arsenide (GaAs) RF MMIC technology packaged into a Flex Cable Assembly using modern surface mount technologies. This new design provides more accurate height of burst and is ECM hardened. For applications from DC to gigahertz to optical wave length, KDI has an effective, efficient solution.
