FMU-160/B
“Approved
for Public Release by AMSTA-AR Form
3002 dated 01
July 96.”
KDI
Precision Products, Inc. is recognized worldwide as a technology
leader in the development of highly sophisticated systems
for Radio Frequency (RF) proximity and sensing applications. Whether
it is today’s most advanced FM proximity system or
a simple continuous wave (CW) system, KDI has the knowledge,
expertise, and facilities to design, develop, manufacture,
and test a high-reliability, low cost solution to meet
customer needs. The FMU-160/B was developed by KDI under
an IRAD program. This design is based on a simplified version
of the M734A1 Multi-Option Fuze for Mortar (MOFM).
The
fuze has been optimized for ground targets with a Height
of Burst (HOB) of 15 feet and includes an impact backup
function. The FMU-160/B has excellent immunity to RF noise
sources. This is a low cost fuze for 105 MM ammunition
and can be used on 76 MM, 5”, and 155 MM applications.
KDI
has produced in excess of 20,000 fuzes to date with a
near perfect ballistic firing reliability record in Lot Acceptance Testing. KDI’s
engineering capabilities are fully demonstrated
where unique, cutting-edge sensor technology is combined
with modern electronic components to provide a fully
integrated munition device. Production of this assembly
in our modern high quality manufacturing facility has
yielded excellent field results.
The
High Fragmentation Fuze electronics employ microprocessor-
based logic together with state-of-the-art Gallium Arsenide
(GaAs) RF technology packaged into a Flex Cable assembly
using modern surface mount technologies. This new design
provides more accurate height of burst and is ECM hardened.
KDI’s development expertise is an outgrowth of many
years of experience in the design and development of RF
proximity fuzing systems for its valued Department of Defense
customers. Design and developmental activities are
centered in the new, well-equipped KDI laboratories which
efficiently accommodate the various technical disciplines
embodied in KDI products. These facilities include mechanical
laboratories for the development of precision mechanisms
and electromechanical devices; electronics laboratories
for the development of electronic circuits, systems, and
equipment; a surface mount technology laboratory, including
pick-and-place equipment; a RF anechoic chamber, and range
simulators for proximity sensor R & D.
KDI
houses and utilizes a full range of standard electronic
test equipment. The KDI calibration system was designed
and implemented to meet MIL-STD-45662. The system employs
a computerized recall of gauges and test equipment which
contains data that defines calibration item status, recall
frequency, location, related program usage, and a historical
calibration file of the last 10 calibration results. For
applications from DC to gigahertz to optical wave length,
KDI has an effective, efficient solution.
